Maggie's Happy Hens Farm and Forest School is a Reggio Emilia-inspired home based child care for children ages 6 weeks to 5 years in New Hampshire. The center will foster curiosity, creativity, and collaborative learning. This approach emphasizes self-directed learning through experiential play and interaction with loose parts, nature, and art.

  • Do you provide meals?
    We do! Here is a link for a sample menu for our students. We focus on healthy protein, fruits and vegetables grown locally in season as much as possible.
  • Do you play outside in all weather?
    Yes! We believe in the value of outdoor play in all weather. Please dress your child in weather-appropriate clothing (e.g., waterproof boots, jackets, hats, mittens, sunscreen). We encourage exploration of nature, regardless of the season.
  • What are the program hours?
    Our program runs Monday through Friday, from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
  • What does a typical day look like for my child?
    Here’s a general outline of a typical day: - 7:00 AM – 8:00 AM: Arrival & Free Play - 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM: Morning Snack & Group Gathering - 9:00 AM – 11:00 AM: Outdoor Exploration & Learning - 11:00 AM – 12:00 PM: Creative Exploration (Art, Nature Activities) - 12:00 PM – 1:00 PM: Lunch & Relaxation - 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM: Guided Outdoor Inquiry - 2:30 PM – 3:00 PM: Afternoon Snack & Outdoor Reflection - 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM: Free Play & Exploration - 4:30 PM – 5:00 PM: Pick-up Time & Closing Circle Note that the schedule is flexible and may change based on weather, children’s needs, or the flow of the day.
  • Is your program licensed?
    Yes! Our program is fully licensed by the State of New Hampshire, Department of Health and Human Services, Child Care Licensing. This includes maintaining proper child-to-staff ratios, conducting background checks for staff, and ensuring regular emergency preparedness drills.
  • Are there any special programs or ways for parents to get involved?
    We encourage parent participation in our program! You can volunteer for outdoor activities, share your expertise, or participate in special events. We also welcome any input on your child’s interests or developmental needs.
  • What is the Reggio Emilia approach?
    The Reggio Emilia approach emphasizes child-led learning, where children are encouraged to pursue their natural curiosity and explore the world around them. This approach values creativity, collaboration, and inquiry-based learning. Nature is at the heart of our program, serving as the classroom for hands-on exploration and learning.
  • What are your tuition rates?
    We gladly accept vouchers! Our tuition is based on the number of days your child attends per week and their age group. Here’s a breakdown of weekly rates: Additional Fees: - Registration Fee: $50 (non-refundable) - Late Pick-Up Fee: $15 for every 15-minute increment past 5:00 PM
  • What are your health and safety policies?
    - Health Checks: Please notify us of any health concerns. If your child shows signs of illness (e.g., fever, diarrhea), they must stay home until symptom-free for 24 hours. - Immunization: Children must be up-to-date on immunizations as per New Hampshire state regulations. A copy of your child’s immunization record must be provided upon enrollment or a religious exemption be kept on file. - Emergency Procedures: We have comprehensive emergency procedures in place, including evacuation drills and CPR/first-aid trained staff.
  • Do you offer discounts or special rates?
    Yes! We offer a 10% sibling discount for additional children enrolled in the program. We also accept state child care vouchers.
  • What age groups do you accept?
    We accept children from 6 weeks to 5 years old. Our program is divided into three age groups: - Infants (6 weeks – 12 months) - Toddlers (1 – 2 years) - Preschoolers (3 – 5 years)
