Maggie Van Camp, Ph.D
Founder & Director
Maggie is a passionate educator and the heart of our daycare center. With years of experience in early childhood education, she is dedicated to creating an enriching environment for young children to thrive.
​
She holds a PhD in Education from Lesley University, where her research focused on play, executive functioning and the role of the family in child development. Her passion for play, storytelling and emergent curriculum has led her to a successful career in both academia as a researcher and teaching, where she has contributed to advancing knowledge and practice in her field.
​
Over the years, she has built a reputation as a professor, researcher and educational consultant, recognized for her curriculum development, coaching and research on children’s wellbeing. She has worked with Boston Public Schools, Boston College, Bunker Hill Community College, Boston Area Reggio Inspired Network, and Project Zero, sharing her expertise and training the next generation of early childhood professionals and students.

Outside of her professional career, she is passionate about healthy living, organic farming and homesteading. Maggie’s Happy Hens Farm and Forest School is the perfect fusion of early childhood education and homesteading.
Maggie lives the happy farm life with her husband, six children, goats, bees and chickens where she enjoys spending time with her family and engaging in skiing, hiking, beekeeping and gardening.

Kim Ballantyne
Lead Teacher
Kim has taught in a variety of school settings and she believes that children deserve to learn in an environment that encourages creativity and exploration every day. Her goal is to cultivate an atmosphere where every child feels empowered to express themselves, learn new skills, and develop a sense of belonging.

​Kim has a Masters Degree in Early Childhood Education from East Tennessee State University. Her research focused on emergent curriculum and inquiry-based learning, theories of constructivism, student collaboration, and principles of the Reggio Emilia approach. Her journey in education is driven by a deep commitment to creating a collaborative and engaging environment where children can explore, discover, and grow together while fostering a love for learning.

Kim believes that play is the cornerstone of learning, and she takes pride in guiding children through social interactions—teaching them how to navigate conflicts, share, and appreciate the value of teamwork. Whether it's playing outdoors, appreciating the wonders of nature, or embarking on creative projects, Kim strives to create memorable experiences for children that spark curiosity and ignite a passion for discovery.

As she works alongside fellow educators, Kim is constantly inspired by the unique interests and personalities of each child. Kim wants all students to feel comfortable, welcomed, and valued as capable individuals with amazing talents and ideas.

Kim and her husband Todd have lived in New Hampshire for almost 30 years. They recently purchased land that they’re excited to have as a place for their children and grandchildren to hike, bike, camp, and play. In their free time they also enjoy traveling as a way to see new places and try new food!
